My last year living in Prague. I was working as a teacher at the State Language School on Narodni and living in Stresovice, and had enough great friends to shake a stick at. Steve Pashley, Graeme Reid, Mindy Levine, lots of brilliant jokes and laughing. By now I spoke Czech sort of, and even worked as a DJ on Radio 1, to go along with all the Club DJing I was doing in places like Klub Komotovka and the like. God it was great back then. I was just about as happy as can be, yet I decided to leave, and in July that's what I did. Why did I do that?! Because I felt it couldn't get any better and thought "I'm leaving at the peak!" And I went to Korea.
Why was it so good? Again, just good friends & good place. No money though and that's CZ for you. It's not good because you make money. It's good because you don't make money, and no-one else does either. You spend all your wages on going out and it's a kind of pre-ambition playground for like-minded young adults. And you keep going back on holidays, for another dose of it, since "leaving" CZ I've been back six times now already. It's good to go back but it's rarely as great as these three years: you've got to live there...
